J. Donald Miller, 81, passed away peacefully in The Glen at Willow Valley Communities, on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. Don was born on August 24,1936, in Refton, PA, son of the late Claude and Ada Miller. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth (Weaver), daughter Lou Ann Lehman, wife of Scott Lehman, Dover, PA, grandchildren Lamar, Dover, PA, and Erin Hartman, wife of Dr. Stuart Hartman, Bloomsburg, PA. Also surviving is great granddaughter Olivia Hartman and great grandbaby Hartman, expected December, 2017. In addition, Don is survived by sisters Jean Weaver, wife of Jack Kraft and the late Harry Weaver and Darlene Herr, wife of the late Lloyd Herr, brothers and sisters in-law, and many special nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by sister Joyce Glick and brother C. Darwin “Sam” Miller.
Don grew up on a farm in Refton, stood market with his parents, and later worked at Lampeter Manufacturing. He retired from the Kunzler Meat Packing Co. after 32 years. He and Ruth were also past co-owners of the D & J Campground, Kirkwood. Don was a member of the Slumbering Groundhog Lodge, Quarryville, and past member of the Strasburg Jaycees. He was also an active member of the Lampeter Church of the Brethren and enjoyed joining other members volunteering at the Water Rescue Mission and New Windsor World Relief Organization. Don and Ruth moved to the Willow Valley Communities in 2014 and were residents in the Manor facility.
Don enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, and was a loyal friend to many. He also was an avid Phillies fan and his presence at the 1980 World Series victory was a special memory.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life service at Lampeter Church of the Brethren, 1900 Lampeter Road, Lampeter, PA, at 11:30 AM on Friday, October 13, 2017. A viewing will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Officiating will be his pastor, John Hostetter, and retired Reverend Earl Ziegler. Burial in Strasburg Mennonite Cemetery.
