William B. “Bill” Smeltz



William B. “Bill” Smeltz, 95, died Saturday, May 6 after a brief illness at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community.

Born in Strasburg Township, he was the son of the late Benjamin Ezra and Mary (Dearoff) Smeltz.

Before retiring in 1983, he was a custodian for the L.S. school district. He also worked for the Strasburg Township road supervisor and spent many years as a farmer, managing the family’s farm along White Oak road.

Bill was an active member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church of Strasburg and, more recently, Mt. Eden Lutheran Church, Quarryville.

An avid gardener and fruit grower, Bill’s passion was hunting. He was a member and one of the original owners of White Oak Hunting Camp located in Tioga County, PA.

Bill is survived by two sisters; Ida L. Shiffler, of Lititz, and Mary, wife of John Ross, of Strasburg. He was preceded in death by a sister, Verna Clark, and three brothers; Robert, James, and B. Ezra, Jr.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes, services and burial in Mt. Eden Lutheran Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in Bill’s memory to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.
