Bert Bruckart Bert Bruckart

Bert G. Bruckart, 85, entered into God’s eternal care Thursday, January 7, 2010, at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.  He was the loving husband of Helen E. (Eckman) Bruckart for 54 years until her death in 1999. 

Bert was a graduate of the J.P. McCaskey High School and the Lancaster Business College.  He faithfully served his country as a member of the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II.  Bert was a public accountant for many years and a life member of the National Association of Accountants.  He was the owner of Bruckart’s Market on High Street in Hanover for 20 years.  Bert was also a stamp collector and regularly attended meetings with several local stamp clubs for many years.  An avid musician, Bert played his trumpet in several bands including the Malta Band of Lancaster, the Moose Band of Hanover, the Apple Core Band of Biglerville and the Littlestown Area Municipal Band.  Bert also sang tenor with the Hanover Oratorio Society and the Hanover Community Singers.  He was a lifelong member of his church choir, the last 40 years at Lohr’s Memorial United Methodist Church.  Bert was also a devoted member of The Gideons International. 

Bert is survived by a brother, Rev. James O. Bruckart and his wife, Colleen, of Morristown, New Jersey and a sister, Mary Lilly of Lancaster.  Bert is also survived by his three sons and their wives, Donald E. Bruckart and Patricia of Thomasville; James E. Bruckart, M.D. and Linda of Chambersburg; and David L. Bruckart and Susan E. Fine of Huntington, New York and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Bert was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, and two brothers, John H. and Alan A.

Tamara Anne Caldwell, 47, of Strasburg died at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center on Saturday, January 2, 2010, following a brief illness. Tami attended Lancaster Mennonite High School and worked as business manager for the Heart Group of Lancaster for more than 20 years. She attended Calvary Church.

Tami was best known for her generous spirit and she found great joy in helping and giving to others. She will be dearly missed and will always be remembered as a loving daughter, mother, sister, aunt and friend!

Born in Dayton, Ohio, Tami was the daughter of James R. married to Carolyn K. (Foster) Zimmerman of Columbia, South Carolina. Tami is survived by two sons, James B. Chance of Lancaster and Michael E. Chance of Strasburg, a brother, William K. married to Diane (Lehman) Poole of Lancaster, two step-sisters, Debra A. Zimmerman and Lori K. Murlin and a step-brother, Kurt D. Zimmerman, all of Columbus, Ohio.

Robert Robert Ensminger

Robert C. Ensminger, 88, of Lancaster, PA died on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in York, he was the son of Charles and Catherine Ensminger. Bob was a graduate of York High School and served in the US Army Air Force in WW II. He was employed by Hamilton Watch and the City of Lancaster as a technician prior to his retirement.
Bob is survived by his wife Doris (Foose) Ensminger, daughter Carol Rednak of New Providence, son Ned Ensminger of Mt. Joy and two granddaughters, Ashley Rednak and Brittany Ensminger.


A Memorial Service for family and friends will be held in the Ellingsworth Auditorium at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, 925 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA, on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Charles Charles Herr

Charles F. Herr, Jr., of Strasburg Township, died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, December 30, 2009. He was the loving husband of Joyce M. (Goetz) Herr for 60 years.

Charles graduated from J. P. McCaskey High School and the Williamsport Technical School. He worked for the RCA Corporation and retired in 1995. Charles collected Conestoga Wagons and antiques. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Charles F., Sr., and Elizabeth (Allison) Herr. Charles is survived by his children, Charles W. Herr, companion of Cathy Kauffman of Lancaster, Sandra L. married to Douglas B. Stoudt of Lancaster, Linda K. married to Michael D. Heidig of Mountville and Douglas J. married to Mary Jo Herr of Newmanstown, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by a brother, Richard K. Herr and a sister, Betty Jane Snyder.

Private service at the convenience of his family with interment in Conestoga Memorial Park.

Ed Rohrer Ed Rohrer

J. Edwin Rohrer, 60, of Paradise Township, died unexpectedly at home on December 30, 2009. Ed was the loving husband of Linda (King) Rohrer. The two celebrated 37 years of marriage this past summer. Ed was a graduate of Penn State University with a degree in agricultural economics. Until recently, Ed had been a life-long dairy farmer. 

Born in Lancaster, Ed was an active member of Ridgeview Mennonite Church, participating in various church committees through the years. His focus in life was to serve others.


An avid hunter, Ed was a member of Sugar Run Hunting Club in Tioga County, and he particularly enjoyed archery hunting.  He played in various recreational sports leagues, most notably softball and basketball.


Ed was preceded in death by his two sons, Scott and Ryan, and his sister, Marilyn Rohrer McGonagle.


In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by his parents, F. Edwin and Marion (Ranck) Rohrer of Strasburg Township; a daughter, Kelly, married to Timothy D. Smith of Lancaster; a granddaughter, Ella Morgan; a brother, Roger M., married to Kandy (Mellinger) Rohrer of Strasburg and their three children Todd, Mark and Ashlee; and a nephew and niece: Matthew and Corinne McGonagle, both of Boston, MA.  
Private services and interment took place at Ridgeview Mennonite Church.

Florence

Florence C. Snyder, 89, of Lampeter, died suddenly on Saturday, January 23, 2010. She was the wife of the late Herbert S. Snyder, who died in 1998.
Florence worked for the former Hamilton Watch Company and Garvin’s Department Store. She retired from Amphenal Corporation in Florida.
She was a member of Lampeter United Methodist Church where she served with the United Methodist Women and the church’s Easter egg candy sale. She was also a member of the West Willow Senior Citizens.
Born in Lancaster, Florence was the daughter of the late John D. and Daisy M. (Herr) Abel. She is survived by two sons, H. Richard married to Jyl Snyder of Lancaster and Donald A. Snyder of California; a daughter, Dorothy M. Snyder of Ocean View, Delaware; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary Jane Leighty of Lancaster. Florence was preceded in death by three sisters, Lyda Getty and Barbara and Dorothy Abel and two brothers, John and Harold Abel.

Iona Iona Weaver

Iona Kraybill Souder Weaver, 92, of Collegeville, Montgomery Çounty (and more recently of Lansdale), died Tuesday in the home of her daughter, Mary Lou Weaver Houser of New Danville, Lancaster County, where she resided the past year and was cared for by many of her children, grandchildren, and Hospice of Lancaster County.
            Iona was the daughter of the late Edwin Allebach Souder and Ruth (Longenecker Kraybill) Souder.  She was born January 6, 1918, in Sellersville, Bucks County.
            Iona married Harold Kolb Weaver on October 4, 1939; their wedding ceremony, officiated by Bishop John A. Lapp, was the first one held in the Rockhill Mennonite Meetinghouse in Telford.  They resided in Harleysville from 1940 to 1943, Collegeville from 1943 to 1989, and Lansdale from 1989 to 2008.  Harold preceded Iona in death on July 6, 2006.  Iona lived in Lancaster from January 2009 until the time of her death.
            Over the span of her years, Iona worked as a seamstress, homemaker, nursing assistant, and as an active community volunteer.  After their nine children left home, Iona and Harold took in boarders at their Collegeville farmhouse, providing a home for Ursinus College students, truckers, and others.  Her hospitable spirit found outlets in Meals-on-Wheels, the Montgomery County Geriatric Center, Crossroads Gift and Thrift Shop in Norristown, the Dock Woods Retirement Community, and the Mennonite Historical Society of Eastern Pennsylvania.
            Iona and Harold attended First Mennonite Church of Norristown (now known as Norristown New Life Mennonite Church) where she was active in women’s service activities and the Sunday school, in addition to serving in 40 years of partnership with Deacon Harold.  In later years her church involvements were appreciated in the wider Franconia Mennonite Conference.
            At home Iona enjoyed gardening and food preservation, reading, writing, music, sewing, knitting, crocheting, Scrabble, spelling bees, and visiting.  On the road Iona and Harold toured the States, including Alaska, as well as Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Australia, in addition to visiting their far-flung children.  They also enjoyed several memorable camping and canoeing trips with their children.  Her warm conversation and ready wit endeared her to many.
            A favorite aunt of many of her 63 nieces and nephews, Iona was preceded in death by six of her nine siblings:  Grace Souder Kolb, Elizabeth Souder Allebach, Gladys Souder Kolb, Mahlon Edwin Souder, Levi Kraybill Souder, and Norman Kraybill Souder.
            Nine children survive Iona: Harold L. Weaver of Baker City, Oregon; Richard E. Weaver of Bernville; Mary Lou Weaver Houser of Lancaster; James L. Weaver of Wilderville, Oregon; Donald E. Weaver of Trappe; Marjorie A. Nafziger of Broadway, Virginia; Sylvia J. Weaver of Lancaster; Lucille J. Martin of Middlebury, Indiana; Stephen S. Weaver of Willow Street; plus “daughter” Pearl P. Schrack. In addition, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and three siblings survive her:  Irene Souder Bechtel of Souderton; Eugene Kraybill Souder of Grottoes, Virginia; and Stanley Kraybill Souder of Morwood.
            A memorial service will be held at Strasburg Mennonite Church at 2:00 pm Sunday, January 17. Iona has donated her body through the Humanity Gifts Registry for medical research, following which her remains will be placed in the old Vincent Mennonite Church cemetery in Spring City, Chester County. Shirely Shirley Wenger

Shirley A. Wenger, 67, of Gordonville, died Thursday, January 28, 2010 while under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County. She was the wife of John E. Wenger, Jr. for over 46 years.
A homemaker, Shirley had worked as a seamstress at local sewing factories. She loved cooking and attending yard sales and she enjoyed her pets and country music.
Born in Paradise Township, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Kathryn (Geiter) Rynier.

Shirley is survived by a daughter, Kimberly married to Larry Gentry of Gap, a granddaughter, Kathryn Gentry; two sisters, Joyce Foulk of Ronks and Thelma Pickel of Lancaster and a brother, Ray Rynier. Betty Betty Winters

Betty E. Winters, 60, of Strasburg, died Sunday, January 3, 2010 while under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County. Betty was married to Robert A. Winters for 31 years. She was a graduate of Lampeter-Strasburg High School and worked as a machinist for Tyco Corporation. Betty enjoyed vacationing in Avalon, New Jersey.

Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Jay F. and Alta G. (Micken) Althouse. Betty is also survived by a brother, Charles married to Kay Althouse of Lancaster and four nieces and nephews and her beloved dogs, Maggie and Memphis. Betty was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Roland and Jere Althouse.
